Cal South Youth Soccer Return-to-Play Update

As we enter the final week of May and approach Week 10 of the Stay-At-Home order we wanted to update everyone. Last week Cal South sent out an email to all members stating that until the Stay-At-Home order is lifted and Return-to-Play protocols are put in place that Cal South will not sanction any activities. Any club that was to train would do so against Cal South, State, and Local mandates and also without insurance coverage.

What the email did not say is that Cal South, with the help of multiple clubs, has been working very hard behind the scenes to get government approval and Return-To-Play protocols in place.

Cal South’s initial Return-To-Play plan has recently been given approval by the San Diego County Public Health Officer and was then submitted to Governor Newsom this past week. If the plan receives the Governor’s approval, San Diego County will begin to pilot the Return-To-Play program. If all goes well other counties will be able to follow suit soon after.

The plan will provide a phased approach for clubs to follow and it will give clear guidelines to protect our players, coaches, families, facility employees, and anyone else involved. Many states have already started their own Return-To-Play programs which can be found HERE. Each State’s plan varies slightly, but they are still valuable roadmaps and give us insight into what is being done around the country to protect everyone as we return.

While there is still uncertainty, and we do not have a definite return date, it is clear that we are moving ever closer to returning to the field. LASC will continue to work with Cal South, local government, and facilities to ensure we are prepared to return.

As more information becomes available we will update everyone. In the meantime, please, remember that as much as we all want to get back on the field the safety of our communities comes first. We must all work together and continue to follow the guidance of our governing bodies to ensure a safe return for all.
